About Tickhill Town Council

Tickhill Town Council comprises 9 elected or co-opted councilors who each give up their time free of charge. A full council meeting is held once a month at the Pavilion on Tithes Lane along with associated working parties, committees and other third parties to work on specific projects. The meetings usually take 2 hours, the first 10 minutes of which are available for the general public to raise any issue they may have. The Council is supported by the Clerk to the Council who deals with all the legal issues and undertakes the additional role of Financial Officer.

The Council was set up in 1974, primarily to give local input to some of the decisions made which affect local residents when control of public services passed to Doncaster Council. It is responsible for the maintenance of the Pavilion, which is owned by DMBC, along with the upkeep of St Mary's car park and all planning in the town which is managed by a planning committee made up of 4 elected members. Considerable work has been done on the Neighbourhood Plan for Tickhill which is part of the Government's strategy for localism.

Council Activities

The Town Council’s activities are governed by the Local Government Act 1972 and, under paragraph 12, a quorum is THREE council members (whether elected or not).

The Act requires that the public must be given notice of and have access to council meetings and to committee meetings. It also requires that, if present, the Council’s Chairman must preside, otherwise if the Vice Chairman is present he must preside in the chairman’s absence LGA 1972 Sch12 Para 11(1)

If the Chair and Vice chair are absent the councillors must elect a chairman. The clerk cannot chair a meeting. LGA 1972 Para 11 (3)

In view of the ever increasing workload of the Council and bearing in mind the requirements of the Local Government Act 1972, The Council will continue its policy of a Council on the fourth Tuesday of each month starting at 6:45 p.m.

IF YOU REQUIRE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT COUNCIL BUSINESS, PLEASE CONTACT THE CLERK AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET HER AT THE PAVILION, TITHES LANE WHERE A COUNCILLOR WILL ALSO BE PRESENT
